Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: As a Maintenance Worker, you will have responsibility for utilization of diverse skills in accomplishment of maintenance, repair, and construction of various project and public use facilities, wildlife habitat and restoration, and general maintenance to grounds and buildings. Responsibilities Constructs, maintains, and repairs various project and public use facilities. Constructs and repairs project signs, boat docks, forms for concrete, building remodeling, etc. Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing in project and public use buildings. Maintenance work on and around The Dalles Project grounds and buildings includes repairing interior and exterior trim, doors, windows, gutters, roofs, floors, etc. Operates and maintains miscellaneous equipment and vehicles assigned to the field office. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. - You must have the ability to perform the majority of the following maintenance worker tasks under normal supervision: painting, carpentry, repairing irrigation systems, plumbing repairs, and welding. You must also have the ability with full level skills in operating all associated tools and equipment related to the sub journey level skills. You must have the ability to ability to perform variety of labor tasks such as cleaning out underbrush, seeding and sodding, cleaning grounds, disposal of waste, and mowing grass with power mower. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen Out Physical Effort - Work involves considerable standing, stooping, bending, climbing, and working on ladders or platforms which requires overhead stretching in awkward positions. Lifts and carries items weighing 50-75 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Incumbent is required to operate a boat and motor vehicle on a regular and recurring basis. Working Conditions - Some work is done indoors where the worker is subject to cuts and bruises from powered or hand tools. Most work is performed outside and in close proximity to turbulent water and/or operating machinery. Subject to slipping on slopes, noise, inclement weather, insect bites, gas and paint fumes, chemicals, raw sewage, etc. There is danger to fingers, hands, and possible loss of hearing. Work must be performed with the use of appropriate safety equipment such as: safety shoes, hard hat, ear protective devices, respirator mask, protective weather gear, life jacket, etc. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. Two year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
