THE ROLE







Plan, coordinate, direct and perform Pharmacy Department operations to provide for quality pharmaceutical care to Providence Hood River Hospital patients and staff under the highest professional standards.







MAJOR CHALLENGES:









  • Have an understanding of changes and challenges occurring in Health Care Industry environment, so can be effective in leading the Pharmacy towards the pharmaceutical care model.



  • Keep current in hands on pharmacy practice while in a management role.



  • Maintain department efficiency and high customer service standards while handling multiple responsibilities and shifting priorities.









    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS









  • Monitors activities to assure adherence to established standards, procedures, schedules, and protocols.



  • Maintains current policy and procedure manual, is a resource to answer questions regarding correct procedures.



  • Maintains positive working environment and good rapport with staff and other hospital employees by interacting in a manner that facilitates constructive outcomes.



  • Provides for an effective, well-trained staff by interviewing, hiring, training, orienting, leading and evaluating the job performance of new and existing personnel.



  • Provides counsel for employees. Helps to resolve conflicts, authorizes disciplinary action when required; listens to concerns.



  • Completes yearly performance appraisals, recommending pay changes when appropriate.



  • Works with management team and department employees to establish yearly goals and objectives. Assists in budget development.



  • Continually evaluates existing programs recommending changes or updates to maximize available technology, personnel, and resources.



  • Coordinates department quality assurance activities. Identifies opportunities for quality improvement and plans, implements monitors and evaluates programs to improve area of identified need.



  • Provides for effective, accurate drug information and counseling by acting as an information source for physicians, nursing staff and other departments.



  • Represents the Pharmacy Department at hospital meetings to provide current information from Pharmacy to receive information that will be passed on the Pharmacy staff.



  • Provides for professional proficiency by attending workshops, seminars, and classes to remain current with new developments in drug therapy.



  • Contributes to effective performance of daily work by acting as a Staff Pharmacist when required. In this regard, reviews and interprets physician orders to assure that the drug, dosage form and dose is appropriate for the patient's age, weight and comorbidities.



  • Assures that all pharmaceuticals are purchased, stored, controlled, and dispensed in a safe, effective manner which meets all regulatory requirements.









    IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS







    Required experience/education for this position include:









    • Upon hire: Oregon Pharmacist License (Vendor Managed)



    • 2 years of experience as a hospital pharmacist; demonstration of supervisory and administrative ability shown during that period.



    • Comprehensive knowledge of the operation, function, and objectives of hospital pharmacy.



    • Good interpersonal and communication skills.



    • Knowledge of management skills and techniques.









      Preferred experience/education for this position include:









      • Graduate from an accredited college of pharmacy, advanced degree, and/or hospital residence training program.
