Aide II Reports To: Classroom Teacher and Center Director FLSA
Status: Non-Exempt Position Summary Under the supervision of a
qualified teacher, the Aide II helps implement daily routines,
classroom activities, and health and safety practices that foster
each child’s growth and development. This position requires
demonstrated experience and training in early childhood education
and the ability to assist independently in classroom operations
when appropriate. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Support
teachers in the supervision, guidance, and care of a group of
children, maintaining compliance with all licensing and
organizational requirements. Assist with planning, preparing, and
implementing classroom activities and materials to promote learning
and development. Model and reinforce positive behavior, helping
children develop social, emotional, and self-help skills. Maintain
a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment. Supervise
children during daily routines, including meals, rest time,
transitions, and outdoor play. Communicate observations and
concerns about children’s development, behavior, or health to the
supervising teacher or director. Assist with classroom
documentation, recordkeeping, and preparation of materials. Support
and mentor Aide I staff, modeling professional behavior and
effective classroom support practices. Participate in required
orientation, ongoing annual training, and staff meetings.
Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and collaboration with
colleagues and families. Supervision Requirements An ECE Aide II
works under the supervision of a qualified teacher and center
director but may be alone with a group of children in specific
situations, provided all staff-to-child ratios are maintained and a
teacher or director qualified staff member is present in the
facility. These situations may include: Supervising a group of
children and an Aide I to cover for staff breaks. Temporary periods
such as arrival/departure, bathroom breaks, or transitions
identified by center policy. Participating in a structured teacher
training program. Requirements: Qualifications Must be at least 18
years of age. Must meet all orientation, initial, and annual
training requirements as established by the State of Oregon and
organizational policy. Must have at least 240 documented hours of
experience as an Aide I or Aide II, including a minimum of 80 hours
at the center where currently employed. If working with toddler or
older children, experience may be with any age group. If working
with infants, experience must include at least 240 hours with
infants. Demonstrated ability to positively engage and communicate
with children, families, and coworkers. Understanding of child
development principles and best practices in early childhood
education. Ability to take initiative, work collaboratively, and
follow supervision and program guidelines. Maintain confidentiality
and professionalism at all times. Physical and Environmental
Requirements Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, bend, kneel, sit, and
move quickly as needed for child supervision. Work is primarily
indoors with some outdoor supervision required. Frequent standing,
walking, and active participation in play with children.
Compensation details: 18.5-20 Hourly Wage
